Derek Dominique – In-Voices

My dawg just released this beautiful body of work. In-Voices has quite a bit of character. First off major love to Derek Dominique as he engineers all of his own records which is bananas. I got the chance to hear this before it dropped at a listening party he held for it which was a super dope experience.

He kicks things off with a very sensual vibe in Shockwave. It has a very frothy vibe if you will. He’s hitting high notes I never knew existed. He then proceeds to take it to Matter of Fact.  He brings the samples back with this one. “He was off a 5th like he worked at saks” my gosh!!

The Games We Play comes in with the sample which automatically grabs me.

A Legends Tale is great. He’s rapping on this one so it’s definitely a different vibe from the first record.

He discusses a few things on it like racial misconceptions in regards to outside perspective of his family. I’m a fan of the record for sure. I can relate in a similar fashion.

He slows it back down on Here We Go.

Shoutout to his other half starring on the interlude Mrs. Dani!

It’s the perfect transition into a very casual but sexy record in Type Of.

Like Nelly/Like Weezy is kind of an ode to Wayne. I like the concept. Beat is stupid.

Smile is probably my favorite song off of the project. It’s got some happy summertime bounce to it. It’s a feel good record no doubt. This is the single!

Fine Ass. A very sultry record.

To Know Where is somewhat emotional especially if you are super duper tight with your mom. That’s what makes me enjoy this record. My mother is my everything. She’s been there for everything even when i didn’t deserve it. Dominique shifted back to spitting on this one. I like that he doesn’t give us all one vibe. He stays in the same area but isn’t afraid to go back and forth between r&b type records and storytelling records.

This is a solid joint to end the project on. I love the body of work he put out and you will to!
